On 7 August the people of Thailand will get to vote in a referendum on their country's 20th constitution. The government is making a big effort to inform people about the contents of the charter, but it has imposed very tight restrictions on any debate, and has banned campaigning against it. The FCCT has already hosted a spokesman for the Constitutional Drafting Commission, who was not allowed to take part in a debate.

Now we have invited spokespeople from the three biggest parties - Kasit Piromya for the Democrats, Pongthep Thepkanjana from Puea Thai and Anutin Charnvirakul from Bhum Jai Thai, to discuss the constitution. We have also invited Alongkorn Polabutr from the NRSA and political scientist and advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan Panitan Wattanayagorn. This will be one of the only opportunities to hear different opinions expressed by veteran political players about a charter which, if passed, will reshape this country's political landscape.
